LET'S BREAK THE SILENCE

United-State; In 2014, statistics from National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) shows that 17.3% of teens that had a major depressive episode were female, 5,7% were male. The age rate goes between 12 years old and 17 years old. We need to give them more support. We need to listen to them and help them find the cause of it. Depression is the most common mental health disorder in the United-States among teens and adults. 2.8 millions youth aged 12-14 had at least one major depressive episode in 2014. After a while if the depression is not under control it can bring to suicidal thoughts and unfortunately to the point of action. The suicide rates among youths aged 15 to 24 have tripled in the past half-century. For every youth suicide completion, there are nearly 400 suicide attempts. Each day, there’s an average of over 5,240 attempts by young people between 7 and 12. Four out of five teens who attempt suicide have given clear warning signs. We need to look out of those signs; we don’t want to lose another precious soul to suicide. The age rate goes between 12 and 17. 5.7% were 12 year old, 8.7% were 13 year old, 10.7% were 14 year old, 13% were 15, 14.01% were 16 and 15.1% were 17 year old. As many as 8.3% of teens suffer depression for at least a year at a time. 15% of teens with depression will eventually develop bipolar disorder. 30% of teens with depression will develop a substance abuse problem. Teens with depression seem to catch physical illness more often than other teens. Canada The rate of teen suicide increases every year in Canada. Unfortunately, in Canada suicide is one of the top ten leading cause of death. In 2009, it was the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 15-34 years. In 2011, 528 youths decided to end it. Teens are more at risk to end their lives. They are emotionally unstable, they go through bullying, depression, family issues and more. In 2012, there were 3,926 suicide in Canada and so many were young lives. 3,926 innocent lives were gone due to that mental illness. Approximately 11 people will end their lives today. The numbers keeps growing more and more. Why so? Because we don’t talk about it, we don’t prevent enough. Suicide has always been a taboo subject and wed need to put an end to this silence. 10 out of 20% of youths are affected by mental illness. Today about 5% of young males and 12% of young females between the age of 12 and 19 have experienced a major depressive episode. The total number of 12-19 year old in Canada are at risk for developing depression is a staggering 3.2 millions.8 out of 100 teens have serious depression where it can bring to horrible action, from self-harm to suicide. That number is still too high. That is between 80 to 100 youths per schools who are struggling with serious depression that could bring to suicide. With Canada’s youth suicide rate, the third highest in the industrialized world. Unfortunately about 4000 people die prematurely each year to suicide and almost 3/4 are youths. The mortality rate due to suicide among men is four times the rates among women. In 2012 the suicide rate per 100,000 people was 11.3 for children under the age of 10, 1.8 for youth between age of 10-14 and 10.2 for youth between the age of 15-19.
